Hello 2014~!

Happy 2014 all! Another year has passed and I have to say that it was one of the best years of my life! So much memorable things has happened this year that I feel incredibly blessed. I’m looking forward to this new year and will face it head on!

It has been 5 days into the year and so far, so great!

01/01/14 - I got to spend it with my family and my favorite (The BF). We did some mini shopping where I got to experience my first Fukubukuro. What is Fukubukuro exactly? Wikipedia says:

Fukubukuro (?? lucky bag, mystery bag?) is a Japanese New Year’s Day custom where merchants make grab bags filled with unknown random contents and sell them for a substantial discount, usually 50% or more off the list price of the items contained within. The low prices are usually done to attract customers to shop at that store during the new year. The term is formed from Japanese fuku (?, good fortune/luck) and fukuro (?, bag). The change of fukuro to bukuro is the phenomenon known as rendaku. The fuku comes from the Japanese saying that “there is fortune in leftovers” (?????????). Popular stores’ fukubukuro usually are snapped up quickly by eager customers, with some stores having long lines snake around city blocks hours before the store opens on New Year’s Day. Fukubukuro are an easy way for stores to unload excess and unwanted merchandise from the previous year, due to a Japanese superstition that one must not start the New Year with unwanted trash from the previous year and start clean. Nowadays, some fukubukuro are pushed as a lavish New Year’s event, where the contents are revealed beforehand, but this practice is criticized as just a renaming of selling things as sets.”

I am not that crazy to wake up super early (some people went at 5am) just to shop for mystery bags. The only participating retailers that I really wanted to go to was only Gucci & Balenciaga. Gucci was out but Balenciaga had some left at about 3PM. Of course, as a first timer I went with the cheaper choice because they are non-refundable. I didn’t want my first time ending in utter disappointment with a thousand dollars down the drain. I will show you guys what I got in the next post :P

01/03/14 - I’ve been recognized from my boss for the first time in 3.5 years. Weirdly because I’ve been recognized more at a corporate level than I have with my boss (I see this guy every other week. Lol). I was so shocked that I didn’t know he was talking about me at first. He said to me something that will stick with me forever, “You’re a hustler. When I see you working, you lead by example of how you want your employees to be.” Sometimes I think he says this to me so that I don’t leave. Haha.

01/04/14 - I got the opportunity to pick up one of the sneakers I’ve been dying to have ALL 2013 YEAR LONG! I didn’t think I was able to get my hands on them, until yesterday! Welcome to my dressing-room fam, Taxi!

  3. Yes! These bags have been around for over 5 years now. It’s fun just to do because you don’t know what you’re getting. But at the same time, you better be damned open-minded for it though. Haha. I know it’s a Japanese thing and that is probably why HI does it. You will see what I got. I already got the next post ready to go. LOL.

  4. Kahala does it too?!?! I always forget that Ala Moana also has a Sanrio place. Crap! It’s a Japanese thing and that’s probably why HI does it. People here are so insane though!! I heard Gucci mystery bags are great. That’s probably why they have a line at 5AM and always sells out. One time I seen this Japanese lady with 5 bags from Gucci! Jeez.

I didn’t see a python ombre clutch! Just the regular leather! I want too. Lol.
